How HackerTube AI handles browsing, saved videos, and external video players.
Last updated: 2026-11-03
About this site
HackerTube AI is an independent directory for discovering videos from the public HackerTube collection. Public search and browsing do not require an account. This page describes the first edition of the directory.
Browsing and search
Opening a page or searching sends a request to this site's hosting service. A search request includes your search terms, selected filters, and page number. Network requests also expose ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and browser information, to the services receiving them. This page does not claim that the hosting service keeps no access logs.
Saved videos and preferences
Saved video IDs are stored in your browser's localStorage. This collection belongs to that browser and is not an account-based or cross-device collection. You can remove individual saved videos through the site or clear this site's browser storage to remove the saved list. Clearing browser storage also removes locally saved preferences.
The site's interface may store language or appearance preferences in browser storage or cookies. Browser settings let you inspect or clear this data. Blocking browser storage can prevent saved videos and preferences from working.
AI learning paths
When you choose to generate a learning path, your learning goal and selected
experience level are sent to this site's server. Your goal and a shortlist of
public video metadata are sent to Cloudflare Workers AI to create the path.
Avoid including private or sensitive information in your goal. The feature does
not save your goal to an account or database. Up to 50 successful results can be
cached in server memory for one hour. Ordinary hosting request logs may still
apply. Completion progress is saved in this browser's localStorage; downloading
a path saves a Markdown file on your own device.
Video players and images
A YouTube player is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com after you select a video. Loading and using that player sends network requests to YouTube and its service providers. This domain does not make playback anonymous. YouTube controls the player and processes its requests under Google's Privacy Policy.
Some video thumbnails are served by external image services, including YouTube's image service. Those services receive ordinary network requests when their images load, even if you have not opened a player. Images served directly by this site are requested from this site's hosting service.
Following a link to YouTube, Hacker News, the original HackerTube project, or another external website leaves this site. The destination's own privacy practices apply there.
Public catalog information
Catalog descriptions, classifications, and discussion links come from the public HackerTube export, based on the open-index Hacker News archive. The export is attributed under the Open Data Commons Attribution License v1.0. Public discussion links can identify the original public commenter on Hacker News. They are source references, not private account information collected from visitors.
Optional platform features
The underlying platform supports optional accounts, analytics, and payments. These are not required to use public video search. If an operator enables them, the information you submit and requests made by those features are handled by the configured services. This page does not state that analytics, account registration, or paid features are enabled by default.
